Apart from shooting he represented Australia in wheelchair road racing, which he participated in for a number of years.

Anton was first introduced to shooting by a friend in 2011.

Zappelli obtained his first World Cup podium finish in 2015, winning a bronze medal. This resulted in him securing a spot in the Australian Paralympic team for Rio 2016.

In 2010 a documentary was made about Anton and three others who had been through similar experiences. The group rode through the Australian outback on quad bikes, visiting each of their crash sites. This documentary was very successful in raising awareness about road safety.
