Volunteer Internship (Strength Coach)

The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) is currently offering strength coach internships. 

WAIS provides strength and conditioning for fourteen sport programs, as well as individual athlete support and training agreement programs at the WAIS High Performance Service Centre on McGillivray Rd in Mt Claremont.


Available Number of Positions

  • Up to three positions will be available.


Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in sport science or related field
  • Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Coach (Australian Strength and Conditioning Association [ASCA])
  • Current First Aid, CPR & WA Working with Children’s Checks.


Desired Qualification

  • Level 2 Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCA)
  • Post graduate degree in sport science or related field


Expected Duties/Responsibilities

Assisting WAIS strength coaches in implementation of strength training and conditioning for athletes. This includes, but not limited to;

  • Coaching (e.g. stretching, resistance training, and plyometrics/speed/agility drills);
  • Record keeping (e.g. reviewing training log, entering data); and
  • Maintenance of facility (e.g. inventory, cleaning)


Day/Time Allocations

  • These positions will report to one of the WAIS strength coaches, and will be assigned approximately 10 hours/week, based on their availability and needs of WAIS strength coaches, from the time slots listed below.

o Monday-Friday 6:00-11:00 am and 2:00-7:00 pm

o Saturday 6:00 am – 1:00 pm


Expected Duration

  • 1 year from mid/late November 2018
