Alistair Addison appointed WAIS Hockey Coach
The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alistair Addison as WAIS Hockey Coach, strengthening the WAIS Hockey Program coaching team, led by Head Coach Stephanie Andrews.
Addison is returning to Australia from the UK, bringing with him more than 15 years’ experience of elite coaching across the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia to the role.
Most recently he served as Lead Hockey Coach at Durham University supporting international athletes from Scotland, Wales and the United States, and as Assistant Coach at Great Britain Hockey in their Elite Development Programme and England U21 Women’s Team.
Working with Andrews, he will assist with the delivery of the WAIS Hockey Program and collaborate with the Performance Enhancement Team to develop WAIS hockey players capable of becoming successful international athletes. Additionally, they will support the Western Australian hockey pathway engaging with Hockey Australia, Hockey WA, WA clubs and regional partners.
The WAIS Hockey Program runs a daily training environment for emerging and developing athletes, in alignment with Hockey Australia and Hockey WA, supporting athletes across coaching, wellbeing, physical preparation, medical, nutrition, physiotherapy and psychology.
“I’ve been impressed with WAIS Performance Team Director Sheila Galloway and Steph Andrews’ vision for the program, and I am really excited to be joining the WAIS family,” said Addison.
“I’m a strong believer that building positive relationships with athletes, and all stakeholders in the athlete’s support network, leads to the creation of a positive environment full of stretch, challenge and a focus on holistic development.
“As a coach I want to see my athletes reach their potential in all aspects of their life, not just on the hockey pitch. Building strong support networks where we take a shared approach to development is what helps athletes to have good balance in their life and become well rounded individuals.”
WAIS Performance Team Director Sheila Galloway said she is excited to see the combination of Andrews and Addison elevate the WAIS Hockey program and strengthen the WA pathway.
“Alistair has a strong track record of successfully converting nationally identified pathway athletes into senior international players across both genders.
“He brings a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to maximise the One Hockey program model, and a collaborative style that will add-value to the Hockey WA community”.
Hockey WA Chief Executive Officer Fabian Ross said, “We are excited about the appointment of Alistair as WAIS Hockey Coach. Alistair’s appointment strengthens an already strong WAIS Hockey Program coaching team.
“We look forward to working with Alistair to continue to build and develop the next generation of hockey stars.”
Hockey Australia Performance Pathways Manager Andrew Collins said, “Hockey Australia welcomes Alistair to the WAIS program. He is highly regarded as a hockey coach and he will bring significant experience not only in leading the development of young WA talent, but also to our entire coaching network.
“We look forward to working closely with him and the rest of the WAIS team to help develop the next generation of Kookaburras and Hockeyroos.”
