Employee and consultants working in the WAIS daily training environment will be required to possess specific qualifications and maintain the validity of these documents to commence and continue working with WAIS:

  • Working with Children’s Check
  • First Aid Certification
  • CPR certification
  • Coaching/Discipline Accreditation
  • National Police Clearance

Student Placement

To obtain a student placement at WAIS, you must be in your third year or higher of a relevant degree. A request for placement must come via your university, and you must provide the following documentation to be considered for placement;

  • Working with children check
  • Insurance documentation from your university
  • Letter of reference/support from your university
  • Provide evidence of current first aid

International students are subject to Visa requirements, and must also provide the above documentation in addition to the required documents for visa approval.

Service Provision

WAIS uses the services of sports physicians, massage therapists and physiotherapists. All providers must meet the below minimum requirements to be eligible as a WAIS preferred provider.

Sports Physician

To provide services to WAIS as a Sports Physician, the applicant must meet the minimum requirements of:

Essential Qualifications

  • Qualification as a Fellow under the Australian College of Sports Physicians (FACSP)

Professional Recognition

  • Registration under the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency

Competencies

  • Experience in working with elite individual athletes and sporting teams within a high performance sporting environment.
  • Experience working across a number of sports.
  • Experience in working within a multidisciplinary performance team environment to achieve sports outcomes.

Physiotherapy

To provide services to WAIS as a Physiotherapist, the applicant must meet the minimum requirements of:

Essential Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Physiotherapy
  • A post graduate degree In Sports Physiotherapy
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the applied sports environment
  • Senior First Aid Certificate

Professional Recognition

  • Registration under the Physiotherapy Board of Australia

Competencies

  • Experience in working with elite individual athletes and sporting teams within a high performance sporting environment.
  • Experience working across a number of sports.
  • Experience in working within a multidisciplinary performance team environment to achieve sports outcomes.

Massage

To provide services to WAIS as a Massage Therapist, the applicant must meet the minimum requirements of:

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma of Remedial Massage
  • Medically oriented and/or sports related post-graduate soft tissue courses.
  • Certification in Myofascial Dry Needling (typically a minimum 6 day full time course)
  • Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Working with Children Check

Professional Recognition

  • Membership with the Australian Association of Massage Therapists (AAMT) or other industry association in remedial massage and myotherapy fields (i.e., IRMA)
  • Membership with Sports Medicine Australia as a Soft Tissue Therapist

Competencies

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with elite athletes from a variety of high performance sport such as athletics, cycling, swimming, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rowing and basketball.
  • Experience must include the assessment, treatment and management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, and advanced knowledge of specialized soft tissue techniques
  • Although experience travelling with State level high performance sports teams to National level competitions is desirable, it is essential to have attended local competitions as Soft Tissue Support Staff.
