WAIS artistic swimmers Emily Rogers and Amie Thompson have impressed in the duet competition in Tokyo.
After a strong showing on Monday in the free routine to score 76.3667, Thompson and Rogers needed an even better showing to make the final.
The 17th team to compete duo dove into the pool to the sounds of Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones.
A score 75.5343 from their technical routine, saw their total score 151.9010 to finish in 20th.
“It was a really fun swim, the prep was really calm. When we finished and we turned around, the coaches look stoked, that’s the biggest thing in the world for an athlete,” Thompson said.
Thompson only partnered with Rogers at the end of last year following the retirement of Rose Stackpole.
“Our head coach only came to us four months ago, and we only came together 10 months ago, so it is a really new duet, a really new routine,” Thompson added.
“We had to pull it together really fast and we’ve just scored the best an Australian duet has scored for a while.
“We are really happy with what we were able to achieve in a short time.”
They will continue the Tokyo Olympic Games on Thursday with the team including fellow WAIS athletes Hannah Burkhill and Alessandra Ho.
