Athlete in Focus: Adam Deans

After a recent health scare led him to a decision to retire from elite sport, our latest Athlete in Focus feature shines a light on Paralympian Adam Deans, one the most popular and professional figures in the WA Institute of Sport’s recent history.

When did you first start participating in Wheelchair Basketball? 2008

What was your favourite thing about the sport? The team aspect, yeah the boys!

What do you regard are your most cherished sporting achievement? My firstWorld Championship Gold Medal with the Rollers in 2014.

What has been keeping you busy in the short time since your retirement? Work at BHP Billiton and I have been studying Primary School teaching at ECU.

What do you regard as your most significant non-sporting achievement to date? Surviving cancer.

Do you enjoy any hobbies outside of exercise, work and study? Playing chess and learning Italian.

 

What is an interesting fact about you that not many people know?

Due to my borderline OCD, when buying bananas from the supermarket – I can only buy 3, 5 or 8 bananas at a time!
