WAIS is home to hundreds of athletes all hailing from different walks of life. This month we catch up with Olympic synchronised swimmer Danielle Kettlewell, who shares her passion for sport with a love for travel and adventure.
Sport: Synchronised Swimming
When did you first start participating in your sport?
2001
What is your favourite thing about your sport?
Working with a team and being able to do a sport that so many others can’t while holding our breath.
What is your biggest sporting achievement to date?
Being selected for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
What is your ultimate sporting goal?
It is crazy to finally say but I honestly achieved my sporting goal in 2016 by going to the Olympics. As I continue to swim, my goals stem from always wanting to push myself and seeing just how good I can get.
What keeps you busy outside of sport?
I put uni on hold to pursue my Olympic dream and have just recently started back up at Curtin and I am studying Internet Communications. I also coach synchro to give back to the community that gave me so much.
Do you have any other hobbies outside of your sport and work and study?
I love to travel and am proud to say that I have been to every continent (excluding Antarctica). I also lived in Copenhagen, Denmark for six months studying Art History and used that time to see as much of Europe as I could. Outside of travel, I love art and creating. Whether it be gifts for my friends or projects for my own enjoyment. As well, I love cooking and baking for my friends and sharing a good meal with lots of laughs.
What does your weekly schedule look like?
My schedule is all over the place depending on competitions and training camp. At this current time in the lea dup to worlds (June/July 2017) this is what my schedule looks like.

What is an interesting fact about you that not many people know?
I am the youngest of five children and my siblings were all in their early to late teen years when I was born. So now at 24, I am proud to be the Aunty to my 13 nieces and nephews! My eldest niece is 19 and my youngest nephew is 18 months! They inspired me to train and work hard day in and day out to make the Olympic Team because I wanted to show them that they can achieve anything they set their mind to if they work hard and smart.
