A close 10-9 win against Italy has landed the Aussie Sharks with a series win after a three game Water Polo competition in Sydney.

WAIS athletes Joel Swift, George Ford and Aaron Younger were amongst the 13 players to secure the win against the London 2012 silver medallists.

The timing couldn’t have been better with Rio Olympic selections on the line for both the Australian and Italian squads and both teams were leaving nothing to chance.

The final match acted as the decider with each team entering with a win to their name.

Italy were tough competitors for the Sharks but the win will act as a confidence boost for Australia leading into Rio in 2016.

Australia will now stand in good stead coming off a win against Japan in a similar series last month.

Next for the Sharks is a short break over Christmas where they will return to their National Water Polo League Clubs until their next camp as a squad in February.
