The WAIS paddling crew are gearing up for one of the busiest weekends on the Perth circuit with the stage set for the Classic Paddle.
The Classic Paddle from Perth to Fremantle over 14km is the second biggest event on the program after the Avon Descent, with over 600 competitors taking part.
WAIS head coach Ramon Andersson has predicted Australian representative Reece Baker will be hard to beat as he continues his comeback from a shoulder injury.
“If training form is a guide then Reece Baker (Marmion) is going to be very hard to beat,” Andersson mused.
“Thirteen months after major shoulder surgery Baker looks to be coming into the form that saw him make the Australian Canoe Sprint team in 2009 and with Brendon Sarson (Karrinyup) not competing it is hard to see anyone beating Baker in his current form.”
The rest of the WAIS squad will be amongst those fighting for other places which will be a very competitive affair with ocean racing paddlers taking part.
