WAIS Athletes Ben Popham and Zoe Arancini have taken out sportsman and sportswoman of the year at the The 2019 Curtin University Sports Awards.

Para swimmer Popham’s recognition comes following a successful World Championship debut, where he won three medals in London last month. In just his second year competition at world level he won silver in the S8 100m freestyle and bronze in the 50m freestyle before combining for another bronze in the 4×100 freestyle relay.

The Sportswoman of the Year went to Aussie Stingers stalwart Zoe Arancini, who helped Australia to their first World Championship medal in Water Polo in August.

Both Popham and Arancini are nominated for the WAIS Athlete of the Year Award, which will be awarded at the WAIS2019 Annual Awards of Excellence on Thursday, November 14 at the Pan Pacific Hotel.
