Ben Popham win second gold as Australia sets Paralympic Record in 4x100m freestyle relay
WAIS swimmer Ben Popham has claimed a second Paralympic gold, after anchoring the Australian 4x100m freestyle relay to gold in a world record time.
Australia was in control from start to finish with Rowan Crothers, William Martin and Matthew Levy handing over to Popham to bring it home. A late charge from Italy and the Ukraine was not enough as Popham stopped the clock in 3:44.31, a new world record.
“It was super special. I think the podium being so packed full of the three relay teams really makes you realise how much of a team effort that was for the whole race to be honest,” Popham said.
“It was so perfect, we executed so well and obviously the world record time is a little cherry on top but for me it was just super special and the boys are the boys and it was perfect.”
Popham returns to the pool on Tuesday for the 400m S8.
