Boyce Calls Time on International Career
2012 London Olympian Fiona Boyce has retired from international hockey at the age of 25, electing to focus her energy and time on a legal career at the prestigious legal firm, Herbert Smith Freehills.
The Western Australian Institute of Sport athlete represented the Hockeyroos internationally on over 100 occasions. She debuted on home soil on 7thJuly 2009 in a test match against Germany and scored her first international goal against Great Britain in June 2010.
Fiona’s coach for the majority of her career, Adam Commens said that Boyce had been a role model for her teammates during her career.
“Fiona is a player that put an enormous amount of effort into training and playing at the top level, and her professionalism was something that provided an example to the rest of the playing group.”
Commens praised her commitment and dedication to playing elite hockey – “her work ethic and discipline meant she gave herself the best opportunity to get the most out of her ability.”
“We wish Fi all the best in her future endeavours and hope that she is as successful in her work career as she was for the Hockeyroos.”
Major Achievements
-Represented the Hockeyroos at the 2009 Champions Trophy in Sydney where she won a silver medal.
-Represented the Hockeyroos at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, bringing home a gold medal.
-Represented the Hockeyroos at the London 2012 Olympic Games, finishing 5th.
In 2011, Fiona Graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Law/Commerce.
