Burras Start European Tour in Style

Australia’s U21 men’s side, the Burras, got their European tour up and running in emphatic style as they ran out 8-3 victors over German club side Kahlenberger.

A Cameron Joyce (SA) hat-trick and Daniel Beale’s (QLD) double were complemented by strikes from Justin Douglas (QLD) and Tyler Cowley (VIC), and an own goal by the Germans.

The margin of victory could, perhaps, have been even greater had the Burras fully capitalised on a host of good opportunities in the first half but despite their energetic start they went in level 1-1 at half time.

A more clinical second half, however, settled any lingering concerns. Joyce’s three penalty corner goals showed the Burras’ threat while there were good performances from Matt Dawson (NSW), Kane Posselt (QLD) and Dylan Wotherspoon (QLD).

WAIS scholarship holder Matthew Lim represented the Burras during the match.

The Burras next fixture is likely to be a much tougher assignment against the Germany U21 men’s team in the early hours of Friday morning. The match gets underway at 1:00am AEST. The Burras will also face the Belgian and Dutch U21 sides between now and 14 June.

The European tour provides the Burras with valuable preparation for the Junior World Cup in India at the end of the year.
