Dancer to Make Kookaburras Debut Against Canada
WAIS hockey athletes Brett Dancer and Kiel Brown have been moved into the Australian Kookaburras squad for the two match Test series against Canada, starting in Canberra today.
Dancer – who is the son of former Kookaburras great Barry Dancer – and 2008 Olympian Brown have both been drafted into the senior squad following impressive performances for the Australian A team during last week’s four team tournament, which was also held in Canberra.
The pair will join incumbent WAIS Kookaburras squad members Fergus Kavanagh and Graeme Begbie for the matches against the Canadian side that was beaten 4-0 by Australia in the four team tournament.
Dancer will be making his first appearance for the Kookaburras, having represented Australia in junior ranks as well as his recent efforts with Australia A. Dancer was selected following a hamstring injury to Matthew Butturini.
The two Test series with Canada continues what has been a busy schedule for the Kookaburras, with the side also preparing for the Oceania Cup where they will face both New Zealand and Samoa for a spot in next year’s World Cup.
In November, the Kookaburras will launch their Champions Trophy campaign, with the tournament being hosted in Melbourne.
