Mishela Dimoska has won a silver medal for Australia at the 2018 U21 Karate World Cup in Croatia.
The Westminster resident was up against Europe’s best in the kata division where she won through to the final following an impressive series of round wins.
Dimoska recorded dominant 5-0 victories over competitors from Romania, Austria, Slovenia and Sweden, before being edged 3-2 in the gold medal round to Ema Brazdova of Slovakia.
Her twin sister Marijana Dimoska was also in action in Umag, winning through two rounds against opponents from Russia and Canada, before falling to Spain’s Francesca Araki.
Both sisters recently won medals at the Oceania Championships held in New Zealand.
The girls are coached by their father and specialise in the kata discipline of karate. This format assigns competitors a red or blue belt and uses a flag system to adjudicate the speed and power of a contestants’ technique.
Competitors take turn in demonstrating their kata which is assessed by a panel of five judges, who raise either a red or blue flag, with the winner determined by the athlete who has more of their flag colour elevated.
