The Aussie spirit nearly pulled off the upset of the Games after coming agonisingly close to beating world champions USA in an extra innings.
With scores tied 0-0 after seven innings an extra innings was called to break the deadlock. Starting with a runner on second, the Aussie Spirit soon had the bases loaded and put the pressure on the United States with a run scored.
The pressure was on the American’s, who needed to score to prevent a major upset. An outfield hit saw the USA bring two runners home and deny the Spirit a hard fought victory.
Australia now faces Mexico on Monday at 7PM Perth time, in the must win game to keep their hopes of a medal game alive.
