Fever Impress in Pre-Season Competition
The West Coast Fever completed a successful pre-season campaign at the inaugural Melbourne Vixens Summer Challenge recently, winning four of their five fixtures.
Eight ANZ Championship teams took up the opportunity to prepare for the 2013 Championship season, with the Fever beginning their fixtures with two ‘closed door’ matches against the Queensland Firebirds (43 -32) and the Canterbury Tactix (50-25) to register two wins from two.
The Fever continued its hot form, defeating a highly regarded Northern Mystics outfit 45-24, via some impressive circle feeds and accurate shooting.
The Fever suffered its only defeat of the weekend courtesy of the host Vixens who won a thrilling contest 41-33 despite some impressive shooting from both sides.
The last game of the competition saw Fever go head to head with New Zealand’s Southern Steel, with Perth over-turning a deficit to take the closely contested game 41 goals to 40.
Fever Assistant Coach Stacey Rosman was pleased with the performances on display in Melbourne, and paid particular attention to the developing depth of the team’s roster.
“It was a great opportunity to get everyone out on court. We were able to reward the girls with lots of court time, and gave them all ataste of playing each of the sides in attendance.
“The ambition this year is to have a team of 12 players, not a starting 7, and each of the players stood out for their own reasons, working hard to some great results over the course of the weekend.”
