The Hockeyroos have suffered a 2-1 loss to Germany in the second round of the Four Nations Tournament in Rosario, Argentina over night.

The German outfit bounced back strongly from a 3-0 loss to the USA yesterday to win the match comfortably despite a close 2-1 final score-line.

The Hockeyroos had a strong representation of AIS-WAIS athletes in Rosario with Kobie McGurk, Ashleigh Nelson, Fiona Boyce and Jayde Taylor taking the field for Australia.

Having drawn with hosts Argentina in the first match of the second four nations tournament, Australia saw possession dominated by Germany in their encounter, with the European powerhouse nation coming out fired up and looking for their first win of the tournament.

While the Hockeyroos found it difficult against an aggressive attacking German side, the shining light was a short corner goal to WAIS scholarship holder Ashleigh Nelson to level scores just before half-time. Eileen Hoffmann was Germany’s standout player, scoring twice and helping her teammates to control the tempo for larger parts of the match.

The Hockeyroos will have the opportunity to avenge the result – their first defeat of the tour – when they take on the USA on Sunday morning, a game which they must win to make it through to a second successive final.
