In an early boost to the 2010 ANL season, four WAIS scholarship holders have been invited to take part in the first of three scheduled national training camps.

Beijing Olympian Gemma Beadsworth will make her first Stingers squad since taking a one year sabbatical post Beijing. Beadsworth will be joined by Zoe Arancini, Glencora Ralph and debutant Elisha Browne.

The Stingers will hold the first of three training camps on the Gold Coast between February 15-18 in the build up to the Commonwealth Championships in April.

“We are keeping the squad small while also inviting some promising juniors who have performed well at the recent U/18 Championships and Institute Challenge to help them gradually adjust to the expected demands of the senior program.” head coach of the Stingers McFadden stated.

“The 20 players will change from camp to camp depending on performances through the National League and in their SIS/SAS training environment.”

“The camps will be used to help prepare the squad and work on our tactics for the Commonwealth Championships, while also allowing the team to get together to build their combinations.”

“It is very exciting that Elisha Browne who performed very well at the U/18 National Championships and Emily Scott will be attending their first National team camp.”

WAIS women’s head water polo coach Peter Szilagy felt it was a welcome boost for the athletes ahead of a busy schedule ahead.

“Congratulations to the four WAIS athletes, hopefully this will help them towards April’s Commonwealth Championship,” he said.
