Four West Aussies Selected for Stingers World League Squad

The Australian women’s water polo team has selected four WA athletes in its squad to contest the 2018 FINA World League Super Final in China.

With competition beginning on May 28, Olympian Zoe Arancini highlights the WA contingent, with goal keepers Lilian Hedges and Genevieve Longman joined by Jessica Zimmerman.

Arancini, Hedges and Zimmerman were members of the Fremantle Marlins squad that recently collected a bronze medal in the finals of the 2018 Australian National Water Polo League.

Longman, last year relocated to Sydney, where she has based with Balmain. At 22, she is one of the country’s best emerging shot-stoppers.

  

The Stingers will open their World League campaign with a match against the Netherlands before taking on hosts China. They will close their group stage matches with a clash against Spain.

In the other group; USA, Canada, Japan and Russia will battle for the elimination stages commencing on May 31.

The 15-strong Australian squad is aiming to improve on its seventh place finish at last year’s World League Super Finals and will build for competition with training camp matches against China and Japan before their opening game.
