Gliders win Second Game in London

The Australian Gliders have won their second group match at the 2012 London Paralympics, with a comfortable win over Great Britain with a 51-24, at North Greenwich Arena.

The Gliders held the British team to just 11 points at half-time, whilst the Australians were superbly marshalled by Clare Nott, with Cobi Crispin (8 points, 7 rebounds) and Amber Merritt (10 points, 6 rebounds) again dominating the paint.

Gliders coach John Triscari paid tribute to his squad and its ability to carry out the game-plan against a parochial home crowd.

“The game was absolutely fantastic for us. The plan that we had beforehand was executed perfectly by the girls,” he said.

“I don’t think that’s the best I’ve seen GB play. There’s a fair bit of pressure on being on home soil in front of a big crowd and the group is very young. I’m sure that some of them were feeling extremely nervous.”

Equally impressive in the Gliders win was the fact that 11 out of the 12 member playing group registered points, with 36 of those earned from the paint, to GB’s 10.

The Gliders will next face Canada from the London Basketball Arena, on Saturday September 1.
