Two Perth Glory Women players have been picked for the first Matildas selection training camp ahead of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany.

The 33-player squad includes Perth Glory Women stars and WAIS-AIS scholarship holders Collette McCallum and Sam Kerr, while fellow Matildas regular Kate Gill (WAIS-AIS) will be missing due to club commitments in Sweden with club side LdB Malmo.

Matildas coach Tom Sermanni says it will be a tough job to pick his final squad that will travel to Germany in June.

“All of these players have just been through a highly competitive W-League season,” said Matildas Head Coach Tom Sermanni.

“I’ve seen a lot of good things in the last four months and have brought in the players selected for this first camp on their performance throughout the season.

“There are still other players I am looking at outside of this group but with only 21 (from 23 chosen for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup) places for the final it is going to be a very competitive few months for spots on the plane to Germany.”

The four-day camp is the first in a series, and kicks off at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
