Hockeyroos Announce 2013 Senior Squad
AIS-WAIS athletes Fiona Boyce, Kobie McGurk, Ashleigh Nelson and Jayde Taylor have all been named in the Hockeyroos senior squad for 2013.
Experienced midfielder Madonna Blyth will once again lead a new crop of Olympic hopefuls after Hockeyroos head coach Adam Commens announced his 2013 squad and also the Australia and Australia U21 teams for this month’s International Super Series Hockey 9’s in Perth from 22-25 November.
With a number of younger players gaining Olympic experience in London this year, the 2013 squad will be well placed going into the next cycle of major tournaments and in four year’s time be in a position to compete against the world’s best.
“We have made progress in the past 18 months with a great mix youth and experience, and 2013 will be another step on the road to Rio,” said Commens.
Hockeyroos players Anna Flanagan, Georgia Nanscawen and Emily Smith all featured at this year’s Games and the trio are all still eligible for U21 selection and will play in the Australia U21 team at the International Super Series Hockey 9’s.
Highly rated Australia U21 pair Jane Claxton and Karri McMahon will have a chance to impress the Hockeyroos coaching staff and selectors after being included in the Hockeyroos senior squad for 2013.
Fiona Boyce will be the only AIS-WAIS athlete in action for the Hockeyroos at the International Super Series.
