Sign of things to come: Hope Munro will again take on the South Africans

The Hockeyroos will play their first series since finishing fifth at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games when it travels to South Africa to compete in the four team invitational Spar Cup.

WAIS athletes Emily Halliday, Kobie McGurk, Hope Munro and Kim Walker have all been named in the Hockeyroo’s squad, with Halliday preparing to Co-captain alongside Madonna Blyth for the first time.

The tournament will act as a warm up for the Champions Trophy that is to be hosted in Sydney in July of this year. Australia will compete in the Spar Cup (June 2-6) against hosts South Africa, Argentina and India.

The biggest surprise in coach Frank Murray’s squad was the inclusion of 16 year old schoolgirl Georgia Nanscawen, who just a year ago was turning out for her local under 15’s.

“I thought it was going to be at least a couple of years away before I would be in consideration for the national squad. I thought I may have been a chance for the development or junior squad but it has just come so quickly,” said Nanscawen.
