Hockeyroos Draw in First Match of Spain Test Series
After their first match was rained off on Monday due to unsafe playing conditions, the Hockeyroos have opened their Test Series against Spain with a 1-1 draw at Guildford Grammar Turf on Tuesday night.
A tight first half saw both teams remain scoreless heading into the half time break.
Gabi Nance of Australia was the first to find the back of the net as she opened the scoring in the 35th minute.
The Hockeyroos’ lead, however was short lived as the Spaniards fired back two minutes later to add to their own scoreboard tally.
Australia had a chance to regain the lead in the final quarter, an attempt from Jane Claxton missing narrowly wide.
19-year-old debutant, Rosie Malone said “everyone was getting the cobwebs out for the first game of the year with the big break after Christmas.”
The two sides will play off again tonight at 6:30pm (AWST) at the Warwick Hockey Centre.
