Hockeyroos Fight back for 2-2 Draw against Great Britain
Last night the Hockeyroos fought it out against Great Britain to secure a 2-2 draw in the fourth game of the Great Britain Series in Perth.
The first quarter proved to be an intense clash, with the first goal of the game coming from the Hockeyroo’s Victorian forward, Georgia Nanscawen in the second quarter of the match at Perth Hockey Stadium.
Great Britain struck back, scoring the following 2 goals of the game, leaving them with a 1 goal lead in going into the final quarter.
It wasn’t until the final five minutes of the game that the Hockeyroo’s Emily Smith was able to reward her team’s efforts by breaking down Britain’s defence and scoring the match levelling goal.
Teammates and WAIS Athletes, Ashleigh Nelson and Kathryn Slattery were rested for this match following strong performances for the first three games of the six match series.
Coach Adam Commens sees this series a platform to improve and develop the team and players skills in the lead up to Rio this August.
“We’re all about learning and becoming a better team, and that’s why we play a team like Great Britain, to have these matches which are physical, hard-fought and challenging,” he said.
The Hockeyroo’s will face Great Britain again for the fifth game of the series at 3.00pm this Saturday the 20th of February at the Perth Hockey Stadium.
The match will be streamed live on epicentre.tv from 2:45pm AWST / 5:45pm AEDT.
