Hockeyroos Overcome Determined Irish in Dublin
The Hockeyroos have been tested by Ireland in the first of their three match series in Dublin, but emerged 1-0 winners overnight.
After winning the recent four nations tournament against Germany, Ireland and India in Germany, the Hockeyroos took to the pitch confident of putting forward a good performance against Ireland.
While the Hockeyroos were able to generate more circle penetrations and shots on goal, Ireland were more than competitive, keeping Australia goalless in the first half.
A great goal to NSW striker Emily Hurtz just minutes after half time gave Australia the lead, with Ireland unable to score in the second half, giving the Hockeyroos the victory.
The victory adds to an impressive string of recent performances from the Australian team since their heavy defeat at the hands of Germany, in the first test against the European heavyweights that preceded the four nations tournament.
WAIS has been well represented on the Hockeyroos European tour, with Kobie McGurk, Ashleigh Nelson and Jayde Taylor each earning praise for their efforts in the green and gold.
Australia will next play Ireland on Saturday 3 July in Dublin, hoping to rediscover the goal-scoring touch that captured the Hockeyroos the four nations title ahead of Germany on goal difference.
