Hockeyroos Select Squads for Korea Series in Perth

The Hockeyroos continue their Olympic preparation with a four Test series against world number eight Korea beginning on March 6 on the blue turf at Shenton Park, Perth.

This will be the Hockeyroos first hit-out on the Olympic Games replica pitch. Hockeyroos Head Coach Adam Commens says “the matches against Korea will provide us with excellent international opposition on the blue pitch at Shenton Park.”

Commens has selected 20 players who will represent the Hockeyroos during the four tests, providing him with plenty of opportunities to review his playing mix.

A near full strength side provides Commens and his players the opportunity to assess their training performances and measure themselves against a team which finished fourth at the 2011 Women’s Champions Trophy in Amsterdam.

Included in the squads are AIS-WAIS scholarship holders Kobie McGurk and Hope Munro, who have been selected for all four matches against Korea, and Fiona Boyce and Jayde Taylor who will feature in the third and fourth matches at Shenton Park.

“I’m excited about the selection of the teams to play against Korea and Korea Telecom,” Commons said.

“It’s an important opportunity for all members in the national and development squads in the lead up to the Olympic Games, as all team performances will be closely monitored.”

Only three players from the Hockeyroos Olympic Squad are not available for this event – Marnie Hudson (Foot), AIS-WAIS athlete Ashleigh Nelson (Knee) and Kellie White (Torn ACL ligament).

Commens said “We’re looking at Hudson and Nelson being ready for the Argentina matches starting on the 19th March or the USA matches in early April. Both players are progressing well in their rehabilitation from injury.”
