Jamie Hewlett appointed WAIS Rowing Head Coach
The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jamie Hewlett as Head Coach of the WAIS Rowing Program.
Hewlett moves into the WAIS Head Coach role having served as Assistant Coach since 2017. His experience includes coaching former WAIS scholarship holder Hamish Henriques and Harrison Fox to gold in the men’s pair at the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships in Tokyo.
He is recognised across the national system for the key role he has played in rebuilding the WA pathway and developing high quality international rowers.
The WAIS rowing program runs a daily training environment for emerging and developing athletes, in alignment with Rowing Australia and Rowing WA, with the intention to graduate athletes to a Rowing Australia National Training Centre and the Australian Rowing Team.
“I am excited to be given the opportunity to lead the WAIS rowing program, having been part of the program for seven years,” said Hewlett.
“The pathway in WA is as strong as ever and there is a lot of talent in the program. I look forward to developing the next generation of WA rowers and supporting them to the NTC in Canberra and Penrith.”
WAIS Performance Team Director Neill Potts welcomed Hewlett’s appointment. “Jamie brings extensive coaching experience to his new role, having been part of the WAIS program across roles for seven years.
“To have a coach like Jamie who has coached athletes to a gold medal at the Under 19 World Championships ensures the WAIS program will continue to provide the best possible support for WA athletes to graduate to the national training centre.”
Recruitment for an Assistant Coach will commence in the new year.
