Jillaroos Qualify for Junior World Cup Quarter Final
The Australian Jillaroos have qualified for the quarter finals of the Women’s Junior World Cup in Germany after a 3-3 draw with New Zealand secured top spot in Pool C.
In a see-sawing encounter, the Jillaroos took a 19thminute lead through Madison Fitzpatrick before surrendering two goals, to trail after 37 minutes. The Australian girls rallied to find an equaliser through Murphy Allendorf on 49m, before London Olympian and World Young Player of the Year Anna Flannagan scored what appeared to be Australia’s winner in the 67thminute.
New Zealand however with their own quarter finals hopes dashed, ensured they would leave the competition with their heads held high, with a 69thminute equaliser denying Australia a clean sweep of its pool round matches.
India claimed second place in Pool C, courtesy of a 10-1 thumping of minnows Russia.
The Jillaroos now focus their attention to their quarter final clash with England, who qualified with a gutsy 2-1 win over hosts Germany.
The match is scheduled to be played on Thursday August 1st.
WA Institute of Sport athlete Kathryn Slattery represented Australian in the match.
