The Canoe Sprint World Championships commence in Szeged Hungary with the Australian Team in high spirits.
With 94 countries lining up the event will be the biggest in the history of the sport and with Olympic qualifying spots up for grabs the racing will be intense in front of a huge Hungarian crowd where canoeing is a major sport.
WAIS Head Coach Ramon Andersson is coaching the national 200m paddling group and said from Hungary, “This event is going to be the biggest event most of these paddlers have raced in.”
“My group includes Alana Nicholls (City Beach), Jesse Phillips (Doubleview) and Steve Bird (Doubleview) who have all trained well and look to be in great form at the right time of the year,” Andersson added.
WAIS canoeing athlete Ferenc Szekzsardi (Karrinyup) will also compete at the World Championships, lining up in the C2 200m event.
