WAIS-AIS athlete and Perth Glory striker Sam Kerr has been named the 2010 Department of Sport and Recreation Junior Sports Star of the Year.
The ANZ Sports Star Awards ceremony was held at the Burswood Entertainment Complex’s Grand Ballroom last week.
17-year-old Kerr claimed the award after being one of a massive 45 nominees.
This tops off a huge 2010 for Kerr, was also named the Under 20 Footballer of the Year at the Australian Football Awards earlier in the year.
It has been a breakthrough season at international level for Kerr, who has been at the forefront of the Westfield Matildas success.
Coach Tom Sermanni gave her a rare starting berth in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Final and she shone by grabbing the vital opener to lead the Westfield Matildas to victory over DPR Korea.
Kerr also scored against World Champions Germany in October during an International friendly match.
Kerr has again impressed in the early part of the 2010-11 W-League championship, with her enterprising style of play reaping rewards for the Glory, who currently sit fourth in the competition table.
