Kookaburras Announced Ahead of International Competition

Five Western Australian men’s hockey athletes were this week announced as part of two Kookaburras squads set to travel to Auckland and Melbourne in November to compete against International competition.

A squad of 18 was named to travel to the inaugural trans-Tasman series against New Zealand whilst another squad of 25 will compete in the International Festival of Hockey against New Zealand, Malaysia and India in Melbourne.

Western Australians Chris Bausor, Tristan Clemons, Tyler Lovell, Trent Mitton and Rio Olympian Aran Zalewski were selected as members of both Kookaburras squads.

With a number of debutants named, head coach Paul Baudoin said “there is a clear focus moving forward to the next four-year cycle as we look to develop a squad for Tokyo 2020.”

“With many of our current athletes overseas of having time away from the high performance environment, this is the perfect and much needed time to look wider afield.”

He then went on to say that “we believe we have selected an exciting and highly capable athlete group, who will give us every chance of success across both series.”

Both squads will compete in November with the trans-Tasman series taking place from November 17th-20th and the International Festival of Hockey scheduled to run from the 23rd-30th.
