Kookaburras Ease to 3-0 Win Over India

In a one sided affair the Kookaburras defeated India 3-0 in the opening match of the International Invitational Hockey Tournament in London yesterday.

The Australians rose to the occasion after an emotional week, with key defender Graeme Begbie, suffering a serious knee injury that ended his Olympic campaign.

Russell Ford opened the scoring for the Kookaburras with Australia taking a 1-0 lead to the break.

Matt Gohdes opened the scoring in the second half, before Luke Doerner converted a late strike to seal an easy 3-0 win for the world number one.

The score-line could have blown out further if it had not been for a strong performance from India’s Sreejesh in goals, the Kookaburras will, however face a much sterner test today when it faces Germany in the second match of the International Tournament.
