The Kookaburras required two late goals to record a 2-0 win over Korea in the second test between the pair in Perth yesterday.

The Australians scored in the 53rd (Russell Ford) and 70th (Chris Ciriello) minutes to stake a 2-0 win and series lead over the Koreans with two matches remaining in the series.

The Korean outfit produced a resolute performance to frustrate the world number one Kookaburras unit, and forced the hosts into an uncharacteristically lethargic performance in the opening half.

Kookaburras Assistant Coach Paul Gaudoin said the match was a competitive affair and the Koreans had lifted since the opening match of the series.

“It was a very tight tussle, the Koreans were more assertive and we were passive,” he said. “We would have liked a few more chances in the first and we can expect two more tough matches to come.

Russell Ford finally broke the deadlock in the second at the 53rd minute mark firing home a field goal after a solid piece of play that started from the backline.

Ford’s shot was one of 12 the Kookaburras had for the match, while the Koreans fired eight at the goal.

Both teams had two corners for the match, which was disappointing for Australia.

“I think it comes down to players making better decisions on whether to shoot or force a penalty and we will need to improve on this area,” Gaudoin said.

Chris Ciriello converted the second for the Kookaburras when he sent home a drag flick on the final whistle.
