Kookaburras Record Strong Win in Bunbury

With just over a month to go until the Champions Trophy the Kookaburras appear to be finding their form, with five unanswered second half goals demolishing Pakistan today with an 8-2 win in Bunbury.

NSW striker Kieran Govers was the star of the show, scoring three of Australia’s goals including the first of the game at the nine minute mark.

Great pressure from Simon Orchard only a minute later forced a penalty corner for the Kookaburras, with the variation resulting in Ford being alone next to the post and converting the Kookaburras second goal in as many minutes.

However Pakistan weren’t down for long, getting themselves back into the game only minutes later thanks to an accurate penalty corner flick to make it 2-1.

Orchard and Jamie Dwyer continued to work hard in the midfield which resulted in even more circle penetrations for the Kookaburras, with Glenn Simpson taking full advantage of the supply to score Australia’s third goal at the 22 minute mark.

Once again Pakistan responded only minutes later via another penalty corner to again reduce Australia’s margin to one goal.

The Kookaburras got off to the best possible start after half time, with Eddie Ockenden scoring only three minutes into the half to give the Kookaburras a more comfortable lead.

After a period of both teams having their share of possession the Kookaburras demonstrated exactly why they are the number one team in the world, putting their foot down to control the second half with AIS-WAIS athlete Brent Dancer and Kieran Govers scoring twice more respectively to give the Kookaburras a well deserved win.
