Kookaburras Set up Clash with Germany
The Kookaburras have bounced back from defeat against Great Britain, to record a 6-0 win over Canada at the World League Final in India, to set up a quarter final clash with Germany.
The Australians returned to winning ways with a dominant first quarter performance, that saw the world number one score four unanswered goals to effectively end the match as a contest.
The win sets up a showdown with world number three Germany, who Australia lost to in the semi-finals of the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Germany went on to win gold, with the two sides having only met once since that occasion, with the Kookaburras eliminated at the same semi-final stage of the 2014 Champions Trophy tournament in India.
The match will played tonight (11.15pm Perth time), with the other quarter finals pitting the Netherlands against Canada, Great Britain against hosts India, whilst Argentina will face off against Belgium.
Earlier in the campaign, The Kookaburras suffered their heaviest ever defeat against Great Britain, after falling to a 5-2 defeat. The match had followed an opening 1-0 win over Belgium.
Two goals to Daniel Beale, supported by singles to Jeremy Hayward, Dylan Wotherspoon, Matthew Dawson and Kieran Govers saw the Australians round out their group stage with a comfortable victory over Canada.
The Kookaburras’ squad features four WAIS scholarship athletes, with Fergus Kavanagh, joined by Tyler Lovell, Trent Mitton and Aran Zalewski.
