Kookaburras Trounce Belgium
The Kookaburras have again sent an ominous warning to their opposition at the upcoming 2010 Champions Trophy, demolishing Belgium 10-3 in their second and final clash in Belgium.
With the 2010 Champions Trophy beginning this Saturday in Germany, this match against Belgium was the perfect preparation for the Kookaburras who are looking to win their third Champions Trophy in a row.
Despite having a young team – with Coach Ric Charlesworth opting to leave a number of veterans at home in order to develop his squad – the Kookaburras were simply dominant against Belgium.
Having five times as many circle penetrations and 22 more shots on goal, the Kookaburras were in control from the opening whistle and showed consistency to score five goals in each half.
Des Abbott showed why he is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, scoring four goals while Luke Doerner and Jason Wilson scored two each.
Chris Ciriello and AIS-WAIS athlete Trent Mitton were the other goal scorers, while Eddie Ockenden, AIS-WAIS athlete Fergus Kavanagh and Simon Orchard were amongst the Kookaburras best players.
The team now departs Belgium for Germany where they will play their first match of the Champions Trophy against New Zealand on Saturday 31 July.
