Western Australian weightlifter, Jessica Lai has come away from the 2017 Commonwealth and Oceania Championships on the Gold Coast with great success having won bronze in the Senior Women’s 69kg Oceania competition.
Taking place in early September Lai competed in a pool of seven athletes including fellow Australian Jocelyne Francken.
A third place finish in both the snatch and clean and jerk rounds saw Jessica finish comfortably in third place overall.
During the snatch rounds she achieved a lift of 88kg on her second lift before missing her third lift of 91kg.
In the clean and jerk Lai once again made her second lift at 104kg however missed her third at 109kg.
Lai’s results gave her a final total of 192kg, 35kg behind the overall winner who achieved a result of 227kg.
The 69kg weight class competition was taken out by Fijian, Apolonia Vaivai whilst second place was won by Andrea Helen Miller of New Zealand with a score of 196kg.
