Western Australian weightlifter Jessica Lai has had a successful campaign at the Australian Weightlifting Championships in Hobart, finishing third in the female 69kg weight class.

In the snatch rounds Lai achieved success on all three attempts, finishing with a 90kg lift.

The clean and jerk saw Jessica miss her first attempt at 100kg before making it on her second.

In her final lift attempt at 103kg, Lai found herself unsuccessful, giving her a 100kg finishing weight.

The winner of the competition was decided by adding together the maximum weights achieved by each lifter in both the snatch and clean and jerk rounds.

A Sinclair total is then calculated which is a value derived by multiplying the total weight by the Sinclair coefficient; a value that is achieved statistically in each Olympic year, based upon the Total World Records in the relevant bodyweight category.

Western Australia’s Jessica Lai achieved a total of 190kg giving her a Sinclair total of 240.601 to finish in third place.
