Western Australia’s Leigh Godfrey has been named in the Travelodge Aussie Spirit for the 2020 Australia Pacific Cup from 30 January – 2 February at Blacktown International Sportspark in Sydney.
Having won the WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualification tournament last year to earn a spot at the Tokyo Olympics the Australia Pacific Cup serves an important warm up for the 2020 Olympic Games. The level of competition will be high with three other Olympic teams competing including world number two Japan, Italy, Mexico. New Zealand, Chinese Taipei and Australia A complete the seven team competition.
Verity Long-Droppert has been named in the Australia A side, while an injured Leah Parry will also travel with the team for the tournament.
“It’s a really important tournament for us to get elite-level game time in, as well as competing with three of the teams we’ll be facing in Tokyo, that’s a great opportunity,” said Head Coach Laing Harrow.
“Our options are wide open with all thirty-two players to be considered for that next step on the road to the Olympics.”
