Matt Richardson wins gold, silver and bronze at UCI Track Nations Cup
WAIS graduate Matt Richardson lead Australia to their first ever gold in the restructured Tissot UCI Track Nations Cup.
In qualifying Richardson along with Thomas Cornish and Leigh Hoffman qualified fastest by 0.468 seconds before lowering their time further in the first round to 42.516secs to book a spot against Olympic medallists France in the final.
Stopping the clock at 42.532-seconds was too quick for the Franch and gave Richardson another World Cup gold medal.
Richardson, who was part of Australia’s last men’s team sprint gold at this level back at the 2018–19 UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Hong Kong, was delighted with the result.
“Today was awesome – three very well executed, super consistent team sprints from the boys and I,” Richardson said.
“Could not of dreamt of a better day. We knew we were in with a solid chance at a podium, but the win was just the cherry on top.”
In the sprint Richardson breezed through the rounds to book a match up against Olympic Champion Harrie Levreysen for gold. Richardson threw everything at Lavreysen to push him all the way and ultimated ended with silver. Having also won bronze in the keirin.
