Memorable Month for Olympian Younger

Dual Olympian Aaron Younger has had the month of his life, celebrating the birth of his first child before becoming the first Australian to lift the Champions League trophy with his Hungarian club side Szolnok.

Younger – who has represented his country at both the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games – welcomed the addition of a healthy baby boy on May 20 after his partner Anna gave birth to son, Russell Gabor Younger.

No doubt spurred on by the bundle of joy, the Perth native helped his club side to a prestigious Champions League Final Six title – the highest club honour in European water polo.

Szolnok claimed their first ever Champions League prize after defeating Croatian giants Jug Dubrovnik 10-5 in front of 10,000 jubilant fans, packed into the Danube Arena in Budapest.

Szolnok made the inauguration of Hungary’s brand new aquatic palace a memorable event for the home fans as the team clinched the most coveted club based trophy with a brilliant display of water polo.

For Younger, he will shortly re-join the Aussie Sharks setup as they prepare for the upcoming FINA World Championships, which for the 25 year-old Melville Water Polo Club product, will be held in the familiar surrounds of Budapest.

Australia has been drawn in Group B at July’s world titles, alongside France, Italy and Hungary. The Sharks will prepare for the Championships with competition at the up-coming World League Super Final in Russia.
