Nelson’s Column Hits 100 in London
Ashleigh Nelson did not have a dream start to the day of her 100thinternational, spending the morning throwing up in the team hotel.
The Hockeyroos striker was restricted by a stomach upset, but was able to take her place in the Hockeyroos’ Test event clash against the Netherlands.
“It wasn’t the best preparation but I obviously don’t have the cast-iron gut of some of my team-mates,” she said following Australia’s 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands.
Despite the loss, Nelson was delighted to have reached a major personal milestone.
“Any time you get picked to play for your country is a great achievement but to play 100 games for such an iconic team makes it even more special, especially as it’s so hard to get a game,” she said. “I just hope I’ve got a few more games left in the tank.”
AIS-WAIS athlete Nelson will line up for 101st cap against Ireland today.
