Nina Kennedy secures ticket to World Championships with National Championships gold
2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Nina Kennedy successfully defended her national title and with it booked her ticket to the 2022 World Championships in Oregon in July.
Kennedy was the only rider to clear 4.35 metres, retraining her her title and confirming her status as Australia’s best female pole vaulter.
“It cements my spot basically. I came to these Championships to win,” Kennedy said. “I was off a short approach, I’ve had some niggles so just came here to win and I booked my ticket so happy days.”
Liz Parnov collected silver and Olivia Gross finished fifth.
In other events Matt Ramsden snared silver in a hotly contested 1500m, and despite a late charge by the Indoor World Championship representative he was unable to overcome the speed of Oliver Hoare. Jessica Bell threw her way to bronze in the javelin.
Chad Perris claimed silver in the 100m ambulatory men and in the women’s Rhiannon Clarke claimed silver and took line honours, with Ella Pardy collecting bronze.
Taylah Cruttenden impressed in the 100m finishing fifth and the fourth fastest Australia. Her second open final completed a successful championships having won silver in the under 20 event last weekend.
