Nine WAIS athletes selected in Aussie Stingers Train On Squad

Nine WAIS scholarship holders have been selected in the Aussie Stingers Train On squad as preparations begin for the 2022 FINA World Championships and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Dual Olympian and World Championship medallist Zoe Arancini, who has been a stalwart of the Stingers since 2013 returns and is joined by the experienced Lilian Hedges and Jess Zimmerman.

The next generation of Western Australian water polo talent is also chasing selection with rising stars Clarie Durston, Tess Hosking, Luci Marsh, Jamie Oberman, Pippa Pedley and Sofie Pontre chasing senior team selection.

The Train On squad has been selected in consultation with WPA National Selection Panel and the National Institute Network coaches.

WPA General Manager Performance Charles Turner said: “Congratulations to the athletes who have been selected in the Aussie Stingers Train On squad.

“The squad will be revised as the training program progresses, the new Head Coach is appointed, and the AWL Competition is played in 2022.

“This preparation phase will be important for our women’s water polo program as they build towards the 2022 FINA World Championships, 2024 Paris Olympic Games and beyond.

“I look forward to working with the athletes and coaches of the Aussie Stingers program throughout the Olympic cycle,” he said.
