WAIS IASP athlete and Paralympic powerlifter Darren Gardiner has claimed the Oceania title and finished second in the open AH formula standings at the Arufura Championships in Darwin.

Gardiner won a silver medal at the Beijing Games last year, and again showed his capabilities at major international events.

Gardiner produced a best lift of 230kg on the AH formula which pits competitors against each other by comparing bodyweight with the weight lifted by an athlete.

“The A.H. Coefficient Formulais a way of comparing athletes of different body weights against each other. It multiplies the weight lifted by a number (coefficient factor) that isbased onthe lifters actual bodyweight,” explained Gardiner.

“This is the way that the results of Powerliftingat the Commonwealth Games are calculated and is often used in competitions where the number of lifters in a weight category is low to make the event more competitive.”
