Rio Olympian, Rose Stackpole has announced her retirement from artistic swimming.

The New Zealand born athlete represented Australia at the Rio Olympics in the team and duet. Her 17 year career started in new Zealand before moving to Australia in 2014 to further her career, and was selected to her first Olympic Team two years later.

Having helped Australia qualify for Tokyo at the 2019 World Championships in Gwanju, South Korea last year, she earned selection for what would be her second Games.

A plan to retire post Tokyo, was brought forward after the postponement of the Games, with the 25-year-old realising she could no longer commit to full time training after a 17 year career.

“I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to my fairytale,” said Stackpole.

“My team mates who made me laugh when I wanted to cry, the synchro communities in Australia and NZ, my coaches who pushed me and inspired me to achieve more than I could imagine.”
