Perth 2011 World Sailing Championships Launched
The Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships launched its new brand yesterday, together with the launch ofthe Emerging Nations Program which is aimed at coaching and assisting the nations that missed out on Olympic selection for 2008.
The ENP was a government initiativeand willassist ISAF in achieving their goals for more nations competing in the Olympics in Sailing. This will be achieved by including nations that missed out on the Olympics in the world championships, lending more competitive experience to the emerging countries.
The ENP will be running up to three camps per year where the participants in Lasers, Laser Radials, and RSX men and women will be attending. It will be based out of Fremantle Sailing Club and headed up by Arthur Brett.
WAIS will also be involved with Belinda Stowell coaching and the WAIS sailors training with the international sailors and getting their time on the World Championships courses.
It will bring a great flavour of competition to Perth in the lead up to the Worlds and is a fantastic opportunity for WAIS sailors and WA sailors alike. The first of these camps is in July and will run for two weeks.
On the International circuit, Chelsea Hall and Stacey Omay finished 13th overall in the Holland World Cup event which was their first regatta in Europe for the year. It was a fairly windy event, and it was well supported with 32 boats competing from 19 nations. They will now travel to Austria for the 470 European Championships being held from the 5th of June.
Tim Castles and Ryan Hannan both leave this week for Europe to compete in Kiel Week from the 20-24 June. Belinda Stowell will travel to Germany to coach them and prepare the WAIS sailors for their upcoming World Championships.
