WAIS athletes Jesse Phillips (Doubleview) and Steve Bird (Doubleview) have been selected to contest the final selection race for the K2 200m for the World Championships in Szeged, Hungary from 18-22 August.

The selection race will be held on 9-10 August in Szolnok, Hungary with the crew of Luke Morrison (SASI) and Matt Urquhart (QAS) being named as the challenging crew. The format will be a best of three races.

Meanwhile, Lockie Cooke (Mosman Park) and Jaymee Lee Martin (Willetton) are two of a record six West Australians in the National U23 Team that is racing this weekend in the International Ruhr Regatta in Bochum Germany.

This is the premier event for U23 athletes until the inaugural U23 World Championships is held in 2013.

Cooke will be competing in the K4 1000m and K4 200m and K2 500m with Glenn Rypp (SASI), whilst Martin will have a full program in the K1 200, K1 500m, K2 200m, K4 200m and K4 500m.

Regarding the competition Lockie Cooke said, “The tour has been awesome as it has allowed me to focused 100% on paddling which I am sure will lead to improved performances.”

Meanwhile 16 year old Shannon Reynolds (Wembley Downs) attended the National Junior (U18) team camp in Sydney over the weekend with the focus on bringing the junior team together to enhance their preparation for the Junior World Championships in Brandenburg Germany in August.

During the course of the camp a mini regatta was held with Shannon Reynolds winning both the K1 200m and 500m as well as all team boat events she contested.
